In terms of location this hotel is in a great spot. On top of the awesome mountain views, you’re just a few steps from Puerto Pollensa’s waterfront, which is studded with little sandy coves. What’s more, the resort centre and its main beach - a huge sweep of golden sands - is an enjoyable 20-minute stroll away. To get there, you follow a cobbled path that snakes along the shoreline between pretty pine trees. And if you don’t fancy walking, there are plenty of buses and cabs to run you there and back.

The Playa Mar has loads going for it and a home-from-home atmosphere. Life centres on the huge pool. Styled like a cloverleaf with one leaf set aside for toddlers, it’s set into big terraces laden with sunloungers and palms. More in the way of fun comes in the shape of our Thomson Kids' Club. And adults can get their share of me-time as well, with a small indoor pool and gym. Also, planned for 2011 is a new building containing a Kids' Club, crèche, Splash Park, spa and entertainment theatre.

In the food stakes, you’ve got a poolside snack bar serving light bites and drinks, plus a smart buffet restaurant rustling up all the Spanish and English favourites for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The rooms, meanwhile, tick all the boxes for an outdoorsy holiday with the kids – they’re simple and bright. And you can book studios or one-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes for a little more independence.
